Youth led, community rooted, Kenya wide

We stand united to end FGM.

We are a network of young people in 22 counties across Kenya. Together we are protecting girls, pushing for stronger policy, and building the kind of communities where FGM is part of the past, not the present.

Why We Exist

United for dignity, equality, and change.

We started in 2015 focused on ending FGM in Kenya. Ten years on, our work also takes on child marriage and gender based violence. What has not changed is how we do it: young people leading, communities alongside us, and a coalition strong enough to move things.

Our Mission

To galvanise youth momentum through advocacy, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and innovation for social change that ends FGM.

Our Vision

A society free from FGM, where young people can turn their aspirations and dreams into fulfilling lives.

Who We Are

A youth led coalition ending harmful practices.

Youth Anti FGM Network Kenya (YANK) brings together young people, community based organisations, and youth led NGOs into one movement. We began in 2015 with a single focus, the abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation. Today our work stretches to include child marriage and gender based violence too.

  • Members in 22 counties with high FGM prevalence
  • Strong roots in the communities we work with
  • Advocacy that shapes county policy and national strategy
  • A pipeline for the next generation of movement leaders

Our Pillars

Five ways we build the movement.

Each pillar plays its own part. Together they make a coalition that is hard to ignore.

Advocacy

Young voices helping to shape policy, county commitments, and shadow reports, all the way from the Narok Anti FGM Policy to national steering committees.

Capacity Building

Mentorship, leadership bootcamps, and training in advocacy and social change communication. Twenty two of our champions have been recognised by the President.

Knowledge Sharing

Lessons from the grassroots making their way onto national strategies and Pan African forums through the YANK Knowledge Exchange.

Innovation

Digital campaigns, gamified learning, community storytelling. Creativity built for how Gen Z actually lives and organises today.

Coalition Building

CBOs, NGOs, student leaders, and activists across 22 hotspot counties. The kind of solidarity that turns projects into a movement.
